Asa 5th Guru.
Becoming a king, the man exercises command,
and by committing oppression, he acquires wealth.
Amassing and amassing, he fills bags therewith.
Snatching his wealth from him, the Lord gives it to another.
The body is an unbaked vessel in water.
Practising ego and pride, its crumbles down in that water. Pause.
Getting fear-free, he become dauntless.
He thinks not of the creator, who is with him.
He raises armies and collects arms.
But when breath leaves him, he becomes ashes, the
He possesses lofty mansions, places and queens,
he acquires elephants, pairs of horses, to delight the mind,
and he is blessed with a large family of sons and daughters.
But engrossed in their love, the blind man putrefies and dies.
He, who created him, has destroyed him.
Pleasures and enjoyments are like a dream.
He alone is emancipated and possesses empire and wealth,
O servant Nanak, unto whom the Lord is merciful.
Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:
Becoming a king, the mortal wields his royal authority;
oppressing the people, he gathers wealth.
Gathering it and collecting it, he fills his bags.
But God takes it away from him, and gives it to another. ||1||
The mortal is like an unbaked clay pot in water;
indulging in pride and egotism, he crumbles down and dissolves. ||1||Pause||
Being fearless, he becomes unrestrained.
He does not think of the Creator, who is ever with him.
He raises armies, and collects arms.
But when the breath leaves him, he turns to ashes. ||2||
He has lofty palaces, mansions and queens,
elephants and pairs of horses, delighting the mind;
he is blessed with a great family of sons and daughters.
But, engrossed in attachment, the blind fool wastes away to death. ||3||
The One who created him destroys him.
Enjoyments and pleasures are like just a dream.
He alone is liberated, and possesses regal power and wealth,
O Nanak, whom the Lord Master blesses with His Mercy. ||4||35||86||
ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ) ਧਰਤੀ ਦਾ ਰਾਜਾ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਰਾਜ ਕਮਾਇਆ (ਭਾਵ ਹੁਕਮ ਚਲਾਇਆ)।
(ਫਿਰ ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਪਾਪ (ਕਰਮ) ਕਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਖ਼ਰੀਦੀ (ਭਾਵ ਵਪਾਰ ਕਰਕੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਇਕੱਠੀ) ਕੀਤੀ।
(ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਜੋੜਦਿਆਂ ਜੋੜਦਿਆਂ (ਵੱਡੀ) ਥੈਲੀ (ਇਕੱਠੀ) ਕਰ ਲਈ।
(ਪਰ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ (ਉਹ ਮਾਇਆ) ਸੁੱਟਵਾ ਕੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਨੂੰ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤੀ।੧।
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਦੀ) ਕੱਚੀ ਗਾਗਰ (ਸਮਾਨ ਹੈ ਜੋ) ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ (ਗੱਲ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ)।
(ਇਹ ਮੂਰਖ) ਹੰਕਾਰ ਕਰਕੇ ਉਸ (ਸੰਸਾਰ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ) ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ ਡੁੱਬ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ)।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਦ ਜੀਵ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ਰ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ) ਨਿਡਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ, ਨਿਧੜਕ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ।
(ਜਿਹੜਾ) ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖ (ਇਸ ਦੇ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ) ਅੰਗ ਸੰਗ (ਵਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਫਿਰ ਉਹ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ) ਚਿਤ ਚੇਤੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਇਆ।
(ਇਸ ਨੇ) ਫੌਜਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕੀਤਾ।
(ਜਦੋਂ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ) ਸੁਆਸ ਨਿਕਲ ਗਏ (ਤਾਂ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਲਾਂਬੂ ਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਸੜ ਕੇ) ਸੁਆਹ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ।੨।
ਉਚੇ ਉਚੇ ਮੰਦਰ, ਮਹਿਲ, ਮਾੜੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ (ਸੁੰਦਰ) ਰਾਣੀਆਂ (ਮਿਲ ਗਈਆਂ ਸਨ)।
ਹਾਥੀ, ਘੋੜੇ, ਮਨ ਕਰਕੇ ਚੰਗੇ ਲੱਗਣ ਵਾਲੇ (ਵਧੀਆ ਕਪੜਿਆਂ ਦੇ) ਜੋੜੇ (ਇਕੱਠੇ ਕਰ ਲਏ ਸਨ)।
ਪੁੱਤਰਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਧੀਆਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਵੱਡੇ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਵਾਲਾ (ਬਣ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ)।
(ਪਰ ਅੰਤ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ) ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਸੜ ਸੜ ਕੇ ਮਰ ਗਿਆ।੩।
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਜਿਸ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ, ਉਸ ਨੇ (ਇਸ ਨੂੰ) ਨਾਸ਼ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
(ਰਾਜ ਮਾਲ ਦੇ ਜਿਤਨੇ) ਰੰਗ ਰਸ (ਬਣੇ) ਸਨ, ਸੁਪਨੇ ਵਾਂਗ (ਅਲੋਪ ਹੋ ਗਏ)।
ਉਸ ਪਾਸ ਅਸਲੀ) ਰਾਜ ਮਾਲ (ਧਨ ਆਦਿ ਹੁੰਦਾ) ਹੈ
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ (ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ) ਜਿਸ ਤੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਦਇਆਲੂ ਹੋਵੇ ਉਹ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਤੋਂ) ਮੁਕਤ (ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੪।੩੫।੮੬।
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ) ਰਾਜਾ ਬਣ ਕੇ ਰਾਜ (ਦਾ ਅਨੰਦ ਭੀ) ਮਾਣ ਲਿਆ,
(ਲੋਕਾਂ ਉਤੇ) ਵਧੀਕੀਆਂ ਕਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮਾਲ-ਧਨ ਭੀ ਜੋੜ ਲਿਆ,
ਜੋੜਦਿਆਂ ਜੋੜਦਿਆਂ (ਜੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ (ਭੀ) ਬਣਾ ਲਿਆ,
(ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਕੀਹ ਹੋਇਆ?) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ (ਆਖ਼ਰ) ਉਸ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਖੋਹ ਕੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਨੂੰ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤਾ (ਮੌਤ ਵੇਲੇ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਤਾਂ ਨਾਹ ਲੈ ਜਾ ਸਕਿਆ) ॥੧॥
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਇਹ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਪਈ ਹੋਈ) ਕੱਚੀ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਦੀ ਗਾਗਰ (ਵਾਂਗ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਹਵਾ ਨਾਲ ਉਛਲ-ਉਛਲ ਕੇ) ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ (ਗਲ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਕਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਸੇ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ) ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਡੁੱਬ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਆਪਣਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਗ਼ਰਕ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਰਾਜ ਦੇ ਮਾਣ ਵਿਚ ਜੇ ਉਹ ਮੌਤ ਵਲੋਂ) ਨਿਡਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਨਿਧੜਕ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ,
(ਜੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਨਾਲ-ਵੱਸਦਾ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਕਦੇ ਯਾਦ ਨਾਹ ਆਇਆ,
(ਜੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਫ਼ੌਜਾਂ ਜਮ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਬੜਾ ਲਸ਼ਕਰ ਬਣਾ ਲਿਆ (ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਕੀਹ ਹੋਇਆ?)
ਜਦੋਂ (ਅੰਤ ਵੇਲੇ) ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਸ ਨਿਕਲ ਗਏ ਤਾਂ (ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਰੀਰ) ਮਿੱਟੀ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ॥੨॥
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਉੱਚੇ ਮਹਲ ਮਾੜੀਆਂ (ਰਹਿਣ ਲਈ ਮਿਲ ਗਏ) ਅਤੇ (ਸੁੰਦਰ) ਰਾਣੀ (ਮਿਲ ਗਈ।)
(ਜੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਹਾਥੀ ਘੋੜੇ (ਵਧੀਆ) ਮਨ-ਭਾਉਂਦੇ ਕੱਪੜੇ (ਇਕੱਠੇ ਕਰ ਲਏ।
ਜੇ ਉਹ) ਪੁੱਤਰਾਂ ਧੀਆਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਵੱਡੇ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਵਾਲਾ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ,
ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਤਾਂ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ) ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਹੋ ਹੋ ਕੇ (ਉਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ) ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ (ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ) ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਹੀ ਸਹੇੜ ਬੈਠਾ ॥੩॥
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ ਉਸੇ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਸ ਭੀ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ,
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਾਣੇ ਹੋਏ ਰੰਗ-ਤਮਾਸ਼ੇ ਤੇ ਮੌਜ ਮੇਲੇ ਸੁਪਨੇ ਵਾਂਗ ਹੋ ਗਏ।
ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪਾਸ (ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ) ਰਾਜ ਤੇ ਧਨ ਹੈ,
ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-) ਜਿਸ ਉੱਤੇ ਖਸਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ) ॥੪॥੩੫॥੮੬॥
ਆਸਾ ਪੰਜਵੀਂ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ।
ਰਾਜਾ ਬਣ ਕੇ ਆਦਮੀ ਹਕੂਮਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਅਤੇ ਜੁਲਮ ਕਮਾ ਕੇ ਧਨ-ਦੌਲਤ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਇਕੱਤਰ, ਇਕੱਤਰ ਕਰਕੇ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਬੋਰੇ ਭਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਉਸ ਦੀ ਦੌਲਤ ਉਸ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਖੋਹ ਕੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰਸ ਨੂੰ ਦੇ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਦੇਹਿ ਇਕ ਕੱਚਾ ਭਾਂਡਾ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੈ।
ਹੰਕਾਰ ਤੇ ਗ਼ਰੂਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ, ਇਹ ਉਸ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੀ ਡਿੱਗ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।
ਨਿਡਰ ਹੋ, ਉਹ ਨਿਧੜਕ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਉਹ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਜੋ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੈ।
ਉਹ ਫੌਜਾਂ ਭਰਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਹਥਿਆਰ ਜਮ੍ਹਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਪਰ ਜਦੋਂ ਸੁਆਸ ਉਸ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਨਿਕਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਦ ਉਹ ਰਾਖ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਉਸ ਕੋਲ ਉੱਚੇ ਰਾਜ-ਭਵਨ, ਮਹਿਲ ਮਾੜੀਆਂ, ਪਟਰਾਣੀਆਂ,
ਚਿੱਤ ਨੂੰ ਖੁਸ਼ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਹਾਥੀ, ਕੋਤਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਜੁੱਟ
ਅਤੇ ਮੁੰਡੇ ਤੇ ਕੁੜੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਭਾਰਾ ਟੱਬਰ ਕਬੀਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਪਰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਮਤਾ ਅੰਦਰ ਖਚਤ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਮੁਨਾਖਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗਲ ਸੜ ਕੇ ਮਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਛੱਡਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਰੰਗ ਰਲੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਸੁਆਦ ਸੁਪਨੇ ਦੀ ਮਾਨਿੰਦ ਹਨ।
ਓਹੋ ਮੋਖਸ਼ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਕੋਲ ਹੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਤੇ ਧਨ-ਦੌਲਤ ਹੈ,
ਹੇ ਨੌਕਰ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਉਤੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਮਿਹਰਬਾਨ ਹੈ।
